Green day goodness

Last year I grew lots of different flowers including dahlias, cosmos, rudbeckia and asters. This year, in contrast, I only grew slugfood apparently, as nothing has survived their gnashing this year. I'm almost convinced you can actually hear them munching away of an evening! So I was pleasantly surprised to find this self-sown beauty flourishing all by itself as a reminder of last years lovelinesses!

More buds waiting their turn to burst open!

This pretty purple flower has sprung up this year and I haven't found out what it is yet, but it's wonderful: the flower head is about 3 feet high on an almost bare stem which bobs gracefully in the wind.

After the slug rampage even Cabbage Whites seem positively charming to me!

Bronze Fennel in its' second year standing proudly above everything else.

And finally a baby Lavender, sown this year and already flowering! I'm tempted to devote a whole bed to it next year as it seems to thrive here once it's made it through it's first winter. This is the first strain that I've grown successfully apart from the ordinary stuff; I think it's called Munstead.

    1. Thanks Dimi! This year I have a few pretty flowers and LOTS of weeds - some I've grown deliberately, but others I really don't like! Next year I'll sort it out I hope! Enjoy your weekend too xx

  7. What gorgeous photos! Get yourself some poppy seeds and scatter them now, they grow anywhere and slugs don't eat them. I sowed thousands last autumn, mostly papaver and field poppies and they popped up everywhere, and self seed, I should have taken some pics! Anyways, they are super easy to grow, just scatter them liberally on any patches of bare soil. Loving your lavender too, mine is a bit woody, and that fennel! So pretty, reminds me of Angie Lewin prints x

    1. Damn, I'm out of poppy & hubs has forbidden me to buy more seeds till I've used my hoard - he's right, they'll probably not germinate after a while..... Chop your lavender down after it's flowered, gently, if it's really woody, each year chop it a little further down, it'll encourage fresh growth. Ideally lavender should be pruned every year by 1/3 - 1/2... ooh it's like gardener's question time!! :-)

Thanks for top tip on spammers, that sounds so gruesome so I will be extra wary, still not going to switch my captcha back on - I detest the blooming things!!!
