Happy Wednesday all!
As you can see, I'm taking a break from monster-making... I got a bit distracted by all my scraps
saved from all my (unfinished) projects
most of which are tiny and useless
but being the veteran hoarder that I am, unable to throw anything vaguely useful away I've kept them, wondering what to do with them all
then I thought, what if I pin them in a long strip and then sew the strips together?
I'm really pleased with this piece, and of course it does need more work, embellishing, stitching &c,
but - what do I do next?
Do I carry on with all of the scraps to make one huge quilt/wall-hanging/thing?
Do I reinforce all of the edges and turn it into a bag? Possibly for Christmas presents?
Do I put it all away and get on with something for Christmas instead?! Only seven weeks to go, Granny's blanket is nowhere near finished....
Any ideas most welcome!
This is my 99th post.... I'm thinking of doing a giveaway to mark my next post - I'm not sure what it will be yet, but it may be fabric-related.... possibly patchwork....

What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday. Go take a look!

Hi Chloe - just to let you know your link took me to you last WOYWW post. Cute monsters - the ones in scarves! Great idea for scraps - I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Hope that your little one is feeling better. Happy WOYWW to you from Helen 56
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing that out Helen! Sorted it out now :-) Tula is much better, thank you!
DeleteFantastic use of all those scraps. I like the idea of turning them into bags as each one would be completely unique. Look forward to seeing what you do with them.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right: that way they get to live a whole new useful life with someone else too! I definitely do not need any more bags....
DeleteThose colours are just wonderful - vibrant. Whatever you decide to make will look great. Can't bear throwing anything away either - just get things out and look!

Thank you! I've never understood people who just chuck stuff out: I have to say, I think I must be at the far end of the opposite extreme though, having saved such titchy pieces!
DeleteOh the joys of a great scrap collection!! The possibilities are endless. Love your scarp piece. It would make a great pillow too.
ReplyDeleteKaren 113
Good idea! Sometimes I think my scrap collection is more interesting than the rest of my stash put together!
DeleteCUSHION COVERS!!! It cries out for that in my eyes. You must have some patience to sit and sew all those scraps together = don't know if I could. But it's very effective.
ReplyDeleteI can't throw scraps away either :D
Hugs, LLJ #58 xx
It's actually really quick once they're all pinned down: the boring bit is ironing all those diddly pieces, but I've never been a great ironer. You're right, cushions would work really well too!
DeleteYour scrap usage is awesome. I have often thought of doing that with the pieces of paper I keep and the ribbon I hoard but have never got that far - yet.

It would be a brilliant technique for papers too, or you could even boil up paper scraps, mash them and make new sheets... I've never done it, but I'm sure it's possible! Good luck if you try it!
DeleteWow! I admire your patience stitching all of those together. It looks awesome!

Thanks Laura! I am pleased with the result, and it really didn't take very long to do - I have a short attention span at the best of times!
DeleteThe scrap collage is so beautiful that I've set it as my screen saver! It seems a crime to have something so vibrant and textual trapped in a digital format but its very relaxing to gaze at xxx
ReplyDeleteRight, that's you sorted for Christmas then! Brilliant, glad you like it xxx
DeleteWow I really love your random patchwork. What a fab way of using up the scraps.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Thanks Annie!
DeleteOh scrap quilt! Beautiful! Wish I could sew....afraid of the moving needle. :/ Oh I'll just enjoy your work! Happy WOYWW! Nan 19
ReplyDeleteI found it scary too when I first got a machine! You forget about it quickly enough though :-) I would love to make a scrappy quilt... it's just I already have 3/4 quilts already started that I haven't a hope of finishing anytime soon....
DeleteFor scraptastic ideas you should check out http://cauchycomplete.wordpress.com/, she makes "new" fabric with her scraps, just like you did, then makes them into quilts. I used her pattern to make the scrappy quilt I featured on my blog a while ago, which is still just a quilt top, damn, I really need to finish that....
ReplyDeleteHighly addictive this scrap lark, I actually even buy scraps, no really, piles everywhere, drives the mister mental! Love your scrappy goodness x
Hello lovely! That blog is great - amazing quilt she's just put together, though as much as I love to swear even I would find it a bit much having the f word plastered all over my bed!! Ha, I have soooooo many damn projects I've started I've seriously lost count. I used to get all my scrap fabric from the local ScrapStore, but it closed down this year :-(
DeleteYour piece is really lovely! I'm not a sewer, but I think it would be lovely as a wall hanging or a pillow. You are getting applause from my corner for seeing the possibilities in the scraps and making something so nice. Happiest of WOYWWs to you -- and thanks for visiting! ~ Laura #117
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you! Its amazing what you can do with leftover bits isn't it? x
DeleteFirst and formost everytime I click on your name link when you leave me a comment it faults and wont give me access and then I go to julia's blog and find you and it works.
ReplyDeleteLove the patchwork what awesome work and it looks really complicated, not for me really I am not a sewer.
Happy WOYWW

How odd, I just tested it & it worked fine.... damn 'pooters! Complicated it is not - easiest thing ever! :-)
DeleteFabulous use of scraps! It looks beautiful. Helen, 4
ReplyDeleteThanks Helen!
DeleteThats brilliant that you are using them! Its looks fab! I was thinking of (eventually) making some birds with some of my scrsaps, using them as feathery wings! Are you in tomorrow morning? I was gonna head to Trago's and pop by and see you on me may back..about 10.30? xx
ReplyDeleteCan I borrow Amanda Blake Soule's book please? I'm thinking of making a fabric book for Mil & seem to remember she had a recipe for one.. and could you check if Trago have Bondaweb in yet?? Cheers duckie ♡ see you tomoro x
Deleteyep, no prob, I'll check with Tragos! x
DeleteHi Chloe,
ReplyDeleteGreat use of all your bits and pieces! Anything you make with them will be fun -- but what about an apron? You know, for when you do your messy crafty business?
Happy WOYWW
Hugs, Kay #5
Do you know, it's funny you should say that: today I was wearing a skirt with no pockets which was really annoying as I had nowhere to stash all the bits n bobs I carry round the house in that endless cycle of finding homes for toys/odd socks/hairbands AND a teacher at Jessie's school has been sporting a rather fetching deep-pocketed apron which I've been admiring.... I think you may have given me the answer! Thank you, thank you! xx
DeleteLoving your patchwork, what a fab way to use us your scraps. I am useless when it comes to sewing! Thank you for visiting me and have a fabulous week. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Chloe,
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you, glad to read that Tula is better.
Love all your scraps, it all looks so colourful and pretty
I can't sew, actually I can't even thread a needle.
Have a good weekend
x Fiona
This is, in my opinion, what patchwork should be about - using every bit. Lovely colours! Can you make this a background for embroidery or applique? Make something for someone to treasure.
